Pastoral Support Worker – Secondary School Maternity Cover

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Pastoral Support Worker to join a welcoming secondary school in Hackney on a maternity‑cover basis. The role starts as soon as possible and runs until March 2027, offering a full‑time opportunity to support young people’s wellbeing and development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pastoral support to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Assist with behavioural, emotional, and social needs of pupils.
• Promote positive behaviour and help implement behaviour‑management strategies.
• Monitor attendance, punctuality, and overall student welfare.
• Liaise with external agencies where appropriate.
• Contribute to safeguarding and child‑protection procedures in line with school policy.
• Support students in resolving conflicts and developing resilience.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a pastoral support role within a secondary school.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and child‑protection procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with diverse young people.
• Calm, resilient, and proactive approach to challenging behaviour.
• Team‑oriented mindset, able to work within a wider pastoral and safeguarding team.
