About the role

Essential Employment is seeking an experienced Pay, Reward & Employment Services Team Leader to head a busy HR and payroll function in Spennymoor. This hybrid role offers flexible working while you lead a team delivering high‑quality pay, reward and employment services to internal and external customers.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Pay, Reward & Employment Services function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
• Supervise, coach and develop a team of HR and payroll professionals.
• Provide expert advice on complex contractual and payroll matters.
• Lead HR and payroll projects such as job evaluation, service improvement and systems development.
• Manage competing priorities, support organisational change and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

Required profile

• Significant experience in HR and payroll administration.
• Strong leadership and people‑management capabilities.
• Thorough knowledge of employment legislation and terms & conditions.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and drive continuous improvement.
