Payment Operations Lead

About the role

Outpost is looking for a Payment Operations Lead to own the part of the business where money actually moves. This quantitative, operational role sits at the intersection of payments, pricing, treasury and product, working daily with transaction data to improve approval rates, costs and merchant experience.

Key responsibilities

• Build and run agentic payment‑operations systems that monitor approval rates, triage declines, assemble dispute evidence and automate exception handling.
• Onboard new processors, banking partners and local acquiring as new markets launch.
• Own payments performance – approval rates, routing logic, decline recovery, chargeback operations and fraud strategy.
• Model and own the economics of each transaction, including scheme fees, interchange, processor margin and FX exposure.
• Maintain day‑to‑day processor relationships, negotiate pricing and evaluate new partners.
• Work with treasury on funding, FX exposure and cash timing across local entities.

Required profile

• STEM or quantitative degree (mathematics, physics, engineering, computer science, statistics, econometrics, etc.).
• 3‑7+ years in payment operations, payment analytics or a data‑focused role at a processor, acquirer or high‑volume fintech (e.g., Adyen, Stripe, Checkout.com, Revolut, Wise).
• Strong analytical mindset with a bias for action and ability to quantify opportunities before advocating solutions.
• Excellent EQ for managing processors, banks and merchants simultaneously.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel / Google Sheets.
• Experience with BI tools and building analytical models.
• Quantitative data analysis and statistical modeling.
