Payments Manager (Hybrid, North West England)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payments Manager to own and optimise our payments function. You will ensure secure, compliant, and efficient processing of transactions while supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day payments operations, including processing, reconciliation and exception handling.
• Maintain compliance with UK payment regulations and industry standards.
• Act as the subject‑matter expert for UK payment schemes and card payment networks.
• Oversee relationships with payment providers, banking partners and third‑party vendors.
• Monitor payment performance, analyse trends and drive operational improvements.
• Support the rollout of new payment products, services and technologies.
• Investigate and resolve complex payment issues and escalations.
• Produce management information and reporting for senior stakeholders.
• Lead, develop and mentor the payments team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior payments operations role within financial services.
• Strong understanding of UK payment schemes such as Faster Payments, BACS and CHAPS.
• Good knowledge of card schemes (Visa, Mastercard) and the card payment lifecycle.
• Experience working with payment gateways, acquiring, issuing or payment operations.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
