Payroll Assistant – Romford – £28k‑£32k

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Assistant to join our Accounts team in Romford. You will own the end‑to‑end monthly payroll for around 400 employees across multiple sites, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for approximately 400 employees across five locations.
• Administer new starter documentation, including P45s, HMRC New Starter Checklists and bank details.
• Verify payroll data such as salaries, overtime, bonuses and deductions before processing.
• Liaise with internal departments on payroll adjustments, salary‑sacrifice schemes and expense reimbursements.
• Manage pension administration, including reconciliations and data uploads.
• Support company vehicle administration, handling P11D reporting, private mileage and Penalty Charge Notices.
• Ensure payroll processes remain compliant with current legislation and company policies.

Required profile

• Previous experience processing end‑to‑end payroll.
• Proficiency with Sage 50 Payroll (essential).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Effective communication and organisational abilities.
• Proactive, professional attitude with problem‑solving skills.
• Desirable: CIPP qualification and experience with Aviva workplace pensions.
