Payroll Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a busy payroll team within an established accountancy practice. You will combine strategic leadership with hands‑on payroll processing to ensure accurate, timely service for a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, support and develop an established payroll team, allocating workloads to meet deadlines.
• Process client payrolls across multiple pay frequencies, handling RTI submissions, month‑end and year‑end duties.
• Prepare statutory documents such as P45s, P60s and manage Auto Enrolment pension schemes.
• Submit CIS returns and set up new payrolls, pension schemes and CIS registrations.
• Respond to client payroll queries, maintain accurate records and drive continuous process improvement.
• Liaise with senior management on team performance and workflow.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing or supervising a payroll team, or a senior payroll professional ready for progression.
• Strong payroll knowledge, preferably gained within an accountancy practice.
• Excellent organisational abilities and the capacity to juggle multiple deadlines.
• High accuracy, attention to detail and strong client‑relationship skills.
