Payroll Manager

About the role

Our client, a well‑established organisation in South East England, is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a small, dedicated payroll team. You will own the end‑to‑end processing of high‑volume fortnightly and monthly payrolls while ensuring compliance with UK legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full payroll cycle for fortnightly and monthly runs, guaranteeing accuracy and timeliness.
• Lead, supervise and develop a small payroll team, delegating work and meeting deadlines.
• Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, pension auto‑enrolment, statutory payments and deductions.
• Oversee payroll reconciliations, year‑end activities and produce regular payroll reports.
• Resolve complex payroll queries and provide expert advice to employees and managers.
• Continuously review and improve payroll processes for efficiency and accuracy.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing end‑to‑end payroll in a high‑volume environment.
• Proven team‑leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC rules, pensions and statutory payments.
• Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
