Payroll Specialist

About the role

Robert Half is partnering with a leading national health and social care organisation to hire a Payroll Specialist for its Leatherhead office. Working in a modern hybrid setting, you will join an experienced payroll team delivering accurate, compliant payroll for a large, diverse workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and update payroll and HR system data with high accuracy.
• Investigate and resolve complex payroll queries and calculations.
• Support monthly payroll processing and reconciliation activities.
• Manage salary over‑payments and recovery processes with empathy.
• Produce payroll reports and conduct regular quality checks.
• Maintain absence records and ensure data integrity.
• Assist with pension administration and third‑party payroll payments.
• Identify process improvements and flag potential risks.
• Coach and support colleagues on payroll‑related queries.

Required profile

• Proven payroll experience in a complex, high‑volume environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
• Ability to work with large data sets and deliver excellent internal service.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused attitude.

Required skills

• Intermediate Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, IF functions).
• Familiarity with MHR iTrent payroll system (beneficial but not essential).
