Payroll Supervisor – Sole Charge (Reading)

About the role

We are looking for a highly organised Payroll Supervisor to take sole‑charge of end‑to‑end payroll services for an established accountancy firm in Reading. You will manage a diverse portfolio of client payrolls, ensuring accuracy, compliance and excellent client service.

Key responsibilities

• Process approximately 80 monthly, weekly and fortnightly payrolls for a range of clients.
• Handle all statutory requirements including PAYE, NIC, SSP, SMP, student loans and Auto‑Enrolment pensions.
• Maintain payroll records in line with HMRC regulations and GDPR.
• Prepare and submit Real Time Information (RTI) to HMRC.
• Manage workplace pension schemes, enrolments and communications with providers.
• Act as the primary contact for payroll queries from clients, employees, HMRC and pension providers.
• Reconcile payroll reports, produce payslips, journals and year‑end documentation (P60s, P11Ds).
• Stay up‑to‑date with payroll legislation and identify process improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a sole‑charge payroll role, ideally within an accountancy practice.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and HMRC processes.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Professional discretion when handling sensitive information.
