People Advisor – HR Support for Not‑For‑Profit

About the role
We are seeking a People Advisor to join a not‑for‑profit organisation in Merseyside. You will work closely with the HR team, handling day‑to‑day employee relations matters and providing expert guidance on a wide range of workforce issues.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of employee relations cases, advising managers and staff on policy, legislation and best practice.
- Support performance management, including capability processes, improvement plans and use of HR data.
- Lead attendance management, monitor absence, conduct return‑to‑work discussions and handle long‑term absence cases.
- Provide clear advice on organisational policies, employment law and HR procedures.
- Build strong relationships with managers, trade unions and employee forums as a trusted advisor.
- Collaborate with operational and corporate teams to deliver a consistent, customer‑focused People service.
- Assist with recruitment, retention, succession planning, talent development and apprenticeship programmes.
- Contribute to the People Strategy, change programmes and business improvement projects.
- Identify learning and development needs and coordinate appropriate training solutions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records and ensure compliance with health, safety, equality and safeguarding standards.
Required profile
- A recognised HR or People Management qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience in an HR, People or Employee Relations role, providing advice across a broad range of workforce matters.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
