People Advisor

About the role

The People Advisor will act as a trusted HR partner for a mission‑led charity, delivering expert advice to managers and employees while ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policies. This role focuses on fostering a positive employee experience and supporting organisational success through people initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional advice on employee relations, organisational change and people‑related issues.
• Manage first‑line employee relations cases and escalate complex matters.
• Support investigations, hearings and formal HR processes.
• Serve as the first point of contact for employee and manager queries.
• Contribute to people initiatives such as engagement surveys and action plans.
• Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems in line with GDPR.
• Prepare contractual documentation and other HR administration.
• Review and develop HR policies and procedures.
• Assist with job evaluation, benchmarking and annual pay review.
• Support wellbeing, recognition and employee engagement programmes.
• Analyse and report on people data to inform decision‑making.

Required profile

• CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent) with solid knowledge of UK employment law.
• Proven experience in a People Advisor or HR Advisor role.
• Strong employee‑relations experience and ability to manage cases confidently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of handling sensitive situations.
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience developing and reviewing HR policies and procedures.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential information.
