Performing Arts Teaching Assistant

About the role

The Perse Academy of Performing Arts (PAPA) is looking for a part‑time Teaching Assistant to support its Friday afternoon and Saturday morning sessions. You will work directly with teachers and students, helping to create a safe, creative environment for drama, musical theatre, dance and singing.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare studios and classrooms – arrange chairs, mirrors, speakers, props and equipment.
• Assist teachers during lessons, demonstrations, group work and warm‑ups.
• Support differentiated learning and individual student needs.
• Supervise small groups or rehearsals when the teacher is absent.
• Maintain a safe working environment, checking spacing, flooring and equipment use.
• Support rehearsals, costume organisation, quick changes and prop management.
• Supervise students backstage during performances and assist with technical rehearsals.
• Take attendance, report absences and help with signing students in and out.
• Prepare lesson materials, rehearsal schedules and occasionally help run the PAPA café.

Required profile

• Experience working with children and young people.
• Demonstrated background in performing arts (drama, dance, musical theatre or singing).
• Reliability, enthusiasm and a commitment to safety.

Required skills

• Studio and classroom set‑up.
• Basic equipment handling (mirrors, speakers, props).
• Attendance administration.
