Pharmacy Support Worker – Acute & Mental Health

About the role
The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde pharmacy team is seeking a motivated Pharmacy Support Worker to join our acute and mental health sites. You will play a vital part in ensuring safe, accurate, and timely supply of medicines to in‑patients and out‑patients across hospital wards.
Key responsibilities
- Label and dispense medicines screened by a pharmacist, including controlled drug prescriptions.
- Maintain up‑to‑date medicine balances and ensure accurate stock records.
- Enter ward requisitions using the pharmacy stock control system and assist with regular stock checks, rotation and expiry monitoring.
- Prepare emergency medical retrieval bags for the Scottish Ambulance Service.
- Coordinate ward stock top‑ups, advise nursing staff on stock levels, and identify slow‑moving items to minimise waste.
Required profile
- Minimum of 3 Standard Grade qualifications (or equivalent) including English and Maths.
- Clear written and spoken English communication skills.
- Basic numeracy, literacy and IT proficiency.
- Willingness to follow procedures, learn new skills and complete a comprehensive on‑the‑job training programme (approximately 18 months).
Required skills
- Basic IT skills.
- Experience with pharmacy stock control system or similar stock management tools (desirable).
