Pharmacy Support Worker

About the role

The Pharmacy Support Worker role is based at University Hospital Crosshouse and offers a permanent, full‑time position within the NHS Ayrshire & Arran pharmacy department. You will rotate through Dispensary, Distribution, Aseptic, and the Combined Assessment Unit, gaining comprehensive hospital pharmacy experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in dispensing medication and managing stock in the Dispensary.
• Support the Distribution team with medication delivery and inventory control.
• Participate in aseptic preparation of sterile products.
• Work within the Combined Assessment Unit to provide timely pharmacy services.
• Cover extended hours, weekends and public holidays as part of the rota.

Required profile

• Minimum A or B pass at National 5 (or equivalent) in English, Maths, Chemistry and Biology.
• SVQ in Pharmacy Services (SCQF level 6) or equivalent, or commitment to achieve it within one year.
• Full UK driving licence (essential).
• Good communication and customer care abilities.
• Basic arithmetic skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of dispensary operations.
• Understanding of medication distribution processes.
• Experience or training in aseptic techniques.
• Familiarity with combined assessment unit workflows.
