Pipefitter / Breakdown Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Pipefitter / Breakdown Engineer to join a well‑established mechanical services contractor specialising in communal and commercial heating systems. The role combines installation of commercial pipework with breakdown response and maintenance across commercial buildings and high‑end residential schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain commercial heating pipework, plant rooms and associated equipment.
• Attend breakdown calls, carry out fault finding and execute corrective actions.
• Fit, service and replace pumps, valves, cylinders and heat interface units (HIUs).
• Perform mechanical diagnostics, planned and reactive maintenance, and produce electronic job reports.
• Participate in a 1‑in‑6 out‑of‑hours call‑out rota.

Required profile

• Proven experience with commercial and domestic heating systems.
• Strong pipefitting and plumbing knowledge.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent).
• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to sites in South East England.
• Good customer service skills and ability to work independently.

• Basic salary £40,000‑£45,000 plus overtime, realistic earnings over £5,000 per month.
