Pipefitter – Shipbuilding & Defence Projects

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Pipefitter to join our shipbuilding and defence projects in Glasgow. You will fabricate and install pipework systems for high‑profile vessels, contributing to the Type 26 programme and other BAE Systems initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate and install small‑ and large‑bore pipework using copper, carbon steel, stainless steel and other materials.
• Cut, bend and weld pipes with hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Install utilities aboard ships, including sinks, showers and toilets.
• Fit and assemble valves, fittings and related components according to engineering drawings.
• Collaborate with other trades to ensure timely project completion.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and adhere to all safety regulations.

Required profile

• Modern Apprenticeship or trade qualification (SVQ3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
• Proven experience in pipe manufacture and installation on industrial or commercial projects.
• Strong knowledge of pipefitting methods, safe working practices and trade‑standard techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, pipework diagrams and technical specifications.
• Understanding of SHE, COSHH and risk‑assessment requirements.

Required skills

• Pipe fabrication and installation.

• Use of hand tools and mechanical pipe‑working equipment.
• Reading and working from technical drawings and specifications.

• Annual salary of £40,016 plus a 33 % shift allowance where applicable.
