Planner – Civil Engineering Projects

About the role

Our client, a specialist civil engineering contractor, is seeking an experienced Planner to lead the planning function across its portfolio of reinforced‑concrete projects. The role involves developing tender programmes, maintaining live construction schedules and providing project‑control support from tender through to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed tender programmes using first‑principles methodology and develop construction logistics strategies.
• Create resource‑loaded schedules, labour histograms and material lead‑in plans for bid submissions.
• Develop, update and monitor detailed construction programmes on live projects, ensuring compliance with NEC and JCT contract requirements.
• Conduct regular site visits to validate progress, produce look‑ahead programmes and identify risks or opportunities.
• Analyse programme impacts of variations, delays and compensation events and support Extension of Time (EOT) submissions.
• Mentor junior staff and trainee planners, providing guidance on planning tools and processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a construction planner within civil engineering, reinforced‑concrete structures or general construction.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage the full planning lifecycle independently.
• Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contract requirements.

Required skills

• Asta Powerproject – critical path analysis, logic linking and progress tracking.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
