Planning Manager

About the role

Join a brand‑new Service Delivery Centre in Swindon and lead the integration of Planning and Rostering functions for rail freight. You will shape long‑term timetables, negotiate industry access, and oversee weekly train plans, delivering safe, reliable and cost‑effective services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Planning and Rostering teams, ensuring delivery of long‑term, short‑term and weekly planning outputs.
• Build, coach and develop a high‑performing team while fostering collaboration and accountability.
• Negotiate track access, timetable development, network changes and other industry planning processes.
• Drive operational efficiency, optimise resource utilisation and challenge existing processes.
• Develop strong relationships with customers, Network Rail, operational teams, industry partners and trade unions.

Required profile

• Significant experience in rail freight planning and leadership.
• Proven ability to build capability, influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong commercial awareness and a focus on safety and reliability.
