Plant Fitter

About the role

First Achieve Ltd, in partnership with a leading plant hire provider, is seeking an experienced Plant Fitter to join its Plant Operations team in Glasgow. This workshop‑based position involves maintaining, servicing and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy plant machinery to keep it safe, reliable and ready for hire.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair faults on excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, generators and other heavy equipment.
• Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Identify potential issues early to minimise downtime and costly breakdowns.
• Perform hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pneumatic fault‑finding and repairs.
• Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records and parts documentation.
• Work both independently and collaboratively to respond efficiently to breakdowns.
• Adhere to health and safety procedures and maintain a tidy workshop.
• Communicate equipment status and repair progress to management and customers.

Required profile

• Relevant engineering qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ, HND or equivalent) in Mechanical, Hydraulic or Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience with heavy plant machinery.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems.
• Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
• Clear communication skills and a customer‑focused attitude.
• Ability to work safely, independently and as part of a team.
