Plant Manager – Horticulture Department

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Plant Manager to lead the horticulture department of a busy garden centre in North London. This full‑time, on‑site position offers the chance to shape product ranges, visual displays and customer experiences while driving commercial success.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee plant quality, stock levels and merchandising to ensure an attractive, well‑stocked department.
• Develop and execute commercial strategies, including promotions, product range optimisation and layout planning.
• Recruit, train and motivate a team of horticultural advisors, fostering a culture of excellent customer service.
• Maintain visual standards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Provide expert plant advice to customers, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Required profile

• Genuine passion for plants and horticulture, acting as the go‑to expert for all green matters.
• Previous experience in a garden centre or plant‑retail environment.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of meeting sales targets.
• Hands‑on, motivational leadership style with experience managing and developing staff.

Required skills

• Knowledge of plant health, propagation and seasonal trends.
• Understanding of retail merchandising and visual standards.
• Ability to interpret health and safety policies.
