Plant Operator – Agri Anaerobic Digestion

About the role

Biogen is seeking an Agri Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Operator to support the Site Manager in the safe and efficient operation of its AD plant in Colchester. You will handle feedstock loading, data collection, routine maintenance and assist with planned equipment overhauls.

Key responsibilities

• Load and sort feedstocks using a telehandler.
• Collect, analyse and report operational data.
• Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and assist with equipment downtime.
• Maintain site housekeeping and adhere to health & safety procedures.
• Monitor the AD process remotely via SCADA and respond to call‑outs.
• Work a shift pattern that includes weekends and overtime as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work unsupervised and handle physically demanding, dirty work.
• Experience in a related process industry is preferred.
• Hold or be willing to obtain a telehandler licence and full UK driving licence.
• Willingness to complete in‑house WAMITAB competency and H&S training.
• Self‑motivated, flexible and a strong team player.

What we offer

• Salary up to £34,000 per year (dependent on experience) plus overtime.
• 23 days of leave (equivalent to 6.6 weeks holiday).
• 4% employer pension contribution and 4× life assurance.
• Permanent, full‑time contract (42 hours per week) with shift work.
