PLC Software Engineer – Remote with Travel

About the role

We are seeking a PLC Software Engineer to join a leading engineering business delivering automation solutions for major water infrastructure projects across the UK. The role is primarily home‑based, with regular travel to customer sites in the Midlands, East Anglia and occasional visits to Northern Ireland for commissioning activities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and commission PLC and HMI applications using Schneider Electric EcoStruxure.
• Modify and enhance existing Rockwell PLC and HMI software.
• Design, program, debug and commission automation and process control systems.
• Produce and interpret logic diagrams and control flow documentation.
• Provide technical support to field service engineers and support continuous improvement of automation processes.

Required profile

• Degree, HND or equivalent in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on PLC programming experience.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for on‑site commissioning.
• Experience in system software engineering is essential.
