PMLD Lecturer

About the role

This temporary, full‑time position is based in Harrow and supports learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) within a further education setting. The role focuses on delivering inclusive, differentiated learning experiences that promote independence, communication and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated sessions for learners with PMLD and complex needs.
• Develop individualised learning programmes aligned with Educational Health Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Support learners in building communication, sensory, life and independence skills.
• Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and achievement.
• Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants, therapists, parents and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Assess, monitor and record progress against individual targets.
• Adapt learning resources to meet varied cognitive, sensory and physical requirements.
• Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity policies.
• Participate in reviews, meetings and quality assurance processes.

Required profile

• Experience teaching or supporting learners with PMLD, SLD, ASD, complex needs or SEND.
• Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and inclusive strategies.
• Ability to develop personalised learning plans and set targets.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships with learners, families and professionals.
• Effective classroom management and behaviour support.
• Patient, nurturing and learner‑centred approach.
• Knowledge of EHCPs and SEND frameworks.
• Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent) and Level 2 English and Maths.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
