PMLD Teaching Assistant – Specialist School

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Basildon, Essex. You will work closely with children and young people who have Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, helping them access a safe and engaging educational environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with PMLD.
• Assist with personal care and mobility needs while maintaining dignity and respect.
• Support the development of communication, independence and life‑skills.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning activities.
• Create a nurturing atmosphere that encourages each student to thrive.

Required profile

• Previous experience in special educational needs (SEN) or a care setting.
• Patience, empathy and resilience with a genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs.
• Strong communication abilities and teamwork skills.
• Flexibility and proactivity in adapting to individual student requirements.
• Current enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through Academics.
