About the role
Join West Midlands Police as a Contact Handler or Dispatcher and become the calm voice guiding the public through emergencies. You will answer 999 and 101 calls, assess risk, and coordinate officers to ensure a swift, effective response.
Key responsibilities
- Answer emergency (999) and non‑emergency (101) calls, listening carefully and asking the right questions.
- Record accurate information in police systems and assess incidents to make timely decisions.
- Provide reassurance and guidance to callers in distress.
- Deploy officers to incidents using multiple dispatch systems.
- Communicate clearly with officers and other emergency services, monitoring incidents and providing updates.
Required profile
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent multitasking and prioritisation abilities.
- Commitment to personal responsibility, self‑development and teamwork.
Required skills
- Accurate keyboard typing (minimum 25 wpm).
