Police Driving Instructor – Training Officer

About the role

British Transport Police is seeking a Police Driving Instructor to join its Learning and Development team. The role involves delivering high‑quality driver training to operational police officers and staff across the rail network.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver driver training in line with College of Policing APP, National Police Driving Standards and relevant legislation.
• Plan, design and deliver standard, advanced and specialist driver training programmes, tailoring learning to individual needs.
• Conduct driver assessments, refresher training and DriverMetrics assessments, maintaining accurate records.
• Perform risk assessments and ensure safety of students, instructors, the public and training vehicles during all activities.

Required profile

• Current Police Staff actively undertaking Police Driver Training within their force.
• Residency in the UK for the past three consecutive years.
• No live misconduct warnings, performance issues, investigations, or financial defaults.
• Not dismissed from another force.

Required skills

• College of Policing Advanced Car Permit.
• College of Policing Police Driving Instructor or Police Driver Trainer permit.
• Level 4 CET or TEP modules 1‑3.
• A1 Assessor / CAVA or TEP module 5.
• Operational competence and experience in I.P.P/HOSTYDS and/or TPAC.
• Desirable: DVLA ADI and C1/D1 vehicle entitlements.
