Positive Behaviour Mentor – Secondary SEMH School

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Positive Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist secondary SEMH school in Hillingdon, West London. You will work closely with vulnerable students, helping them develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour so they can thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 mentoring and emotional regulation support for students with SEMH and ASC.
• Build therapeutic relationships using reflective and restorative approaches.
• Support students to develop confidence, independence and coping strategies.
• Monitor behaviour, wellbeing and progress, maintaining accurate records and contributing to behaviour plans and risk assessments.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, SEND professionals and external agencies to deliver targeted interventions.
• Promote positive behaviour throughout the school and respond calmly to challenging situations.
• Support students during lessons, transitions, breaktimes and other activities across the school day.
• Build positive relationships with parents and carers to reinforce support at home.
• Accompany students on educational visits and assist with wider pastoral activities as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASC, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
• Calm, patient and resilient approach with excellent behaviour management skills.
• Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Experience in a school, alternative provision, youth work, residential care, mental health or similar setting is highly desirable.
