PR & External Affairs Lead

About the role

The PR & External Affairs Lead will shape and deliver communication strategies for a medium-sized not-for-profit organisation in Merseyside. Reporting to senior leadership, you will ensure the organisation’s voice is heard positively across media and community partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive PR and external affairs strategies to enhance reputation.
• Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, local authorities and community partners.
• Manage media presence and act as spokesperson when required.
• Oversee creation of press releases, statements and other external communications.
• Monitor and evaluate PR campaign effectiveness, adjusting tactics as needed.
• Provide advice on external communication and crisis management to internal teams.
• Ensure all communications align with the organisation’s mission and values.

Required profile

• Proven experience in public relations, communications or external affairs.
• Experience working with local or combined authorities is highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of media relations and stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Proactive approach to identifying representation opportunities.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in communications, marketing or related field.
