Practice Accountant

About the role

Our client, a small accounting firm in Caversham, is looking for a Senior Practice Accountant to act as the second‑in‑command to the owner. You will manage a portfolio of clients, work closely with a small team of bookkeepers, and help shape a friendly, flexible work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare annual accounts and tax returns for companies and individuals.
• Support bookkeepers with tax treatment of complex bookkeeping items.
• Develop and document efficient processes in collaboration with the team.
• Cover capacity gaps such as bank imports or bookkeeping for tax‑return clients.
• Oversee AML checks and manage client onboarding.
• Identify and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Contribute ideas on systems and process enhancements.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CTA qualified.
• Experience working in an accountancy practice.
• Ability to work independently and support a small team.
• Willingness to adapt hours between 25‑35 per week.
