Practice Tutor Assessor – Probation Service

About the role

The Practice Tutor Assessor (PTA) joins the divisional training team within the National Probation Service (NPS) or HMPPS Wales. The role involves delivering probation qualifications, mentoring learners and supporting professional development across England, Wales and CRC locations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver all aspects of probation qualifications, including brokering learning opportunities.
• Mentor, assess and coach learners individually and in groups.
• Design and deliver professional‑skills workshops and training sessions.
• Undertake quality‑assurance checks on learner work and related outputs.
• Participate in learner selection and develop learning agreements in line with regulatory frameworks.
• Identify individual learning needs, reasonable adjustments and performance issues, reporting them as required.

Required profile

• Member of a divisional training team with professional knowledge of probation qualifications.
• Willingness to travel regularly across multiple sites, including overnight stays.
• Ability to work collaboratively with learners, line managers and other L&D functions.
• Strong organisational skills to manage learning agreements and progress monitoring.
