Premises Manager (School Facilities)

About the role

Skanska’s Building Services team is seeking a Premises Manager to lead the on‑site caretaking service for schools in Essex. You will ensure a safe, healthy learning environment by coordinating maintenance, cleaning, and grounds activities while delivering an excellent customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the on‑site premises team and subcontractors delivering caretaking services.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, COSHH and water‑system regulations.
• Oversee planned and reactive maintenance according to the PPM plan and Helpdesk requests.
• Monitor cleanliness of premises and furnishings, reporting deficiencies.
• Support school emergency procedures (fire, flood, break‑ins, accidents).
• Respond to after‑hours emergencies as needed.
• Prepare and clear school sites for assemblies, meetings and extracurricular activities.
• Handle routine and non‑routine opening of premises and grounds.

Required profile

• Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
• Flexibility to work outside standard 8‑5 hours.
• Experience in maintenance or handyperson tasks.
• Proficiency with computers and mobile devices.
• Strong planning and prioritisation skills.
