Prescribing Support Pharmacy Technician

About the role

The Prescribing Support Pharmacy Technician will join the Central Services Team at Allermuir Health Centre, providing essential support to 121 GP practices and 180 community pharmacies across NHS Lothian. This Band 5, full‑time position offers the chance to work in an innovative environment, collaborating with practice‑based pharmacy teams, GPs and community pharmacists.

Key responsibilities

• Produce and analyse prescribing data reports for GP practices.
• Manage medicines shortages and coordinate appropriate responses.
• Maintain and support prescribing IT systems, including Scriptswitch.
• Authorise community pharmacy procurement of unlicensed medicines.
• Provide advice and support to practice‑based pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare staff.

Required profile

• Qualified Pharmacy Technician with substantial experience in primary care or community pharmacy.
• Current PVG Scheme membership (adult and/or child as required).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Scriptswitch prescribing IT system.
• Experience in prescribing data reporting and analysis.
• Knowledge of medicines shortage management processes.
