Primary HLTA – Teaching Support in Liverpool Schools

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic Primary Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to join inclusive primary schools in Liverpool. The role involves delivering Preparation, Planning and Assessment (PPA) cover and supporting whole‑class teaching while working closely with class teachers and senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and co‑plan lessons with teachers, adapting content to meet pupil needs.
• Deliver whole‑class teaching as part of the PPA timetable and provide short‑term cover across age groups.
• Provide verbal and written feedback on lesson content, pupil responses and behaviour.
• Motivate and progress pupil learning in line with school policies.
• Maintain a safe, well‑managed learning environment and appropriate resources.
• Assess pupil work and modify methods to address individual or group requirements.
• Promote inclusion for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
• Use positive behaviour management strategies to foster a purposeful learning atmosphere.
• Supply progress information to parents, teachers and senior leaders as required.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting primary pupils, including those with SEND.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teaching staff.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to pupil progress.
• Commitment to the school’s vision, ethos and inclusive approach.

Required skills

• Experience delivering PPA cover in primary settings.
• Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies.
• Effective communication for feedback to pupils and staff.
