Primary SEMH/SEN Teacher – Small Class (4‑5) – Barking

About the role
We are recruiting a primary teacher with a specialism in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) to join a small, nurturing independent provision in Barking & Dagenham. You will lead a KS2 class of four to five vulnerable pupils, delivering highly personalised learning in a supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver the KS2 curriculum for a small, mixed‑ability class.
- Implement trauma‑informed and attachment‑aware teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with behaviour mentors and a multidisciplinary team to support pupils' emotional regulation.
- Monitor progress and adapt learning plans to meet individual needs.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom atmosphere and manage behaviour with understanding rather than punishment.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience as a primary teacher.
- Background in SEMH or SEN teaching, or a willingness to develop expertise in these areas.
- Calm, resilient, solution‑focused attitude in challenging situations.
- High expectations for pupils while recognising individual barriers to learning.
Required skills
- Strong behaviour management grounded in empathy.
- Ability to personalise learning and differentiate instruction.
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice and therapeutic approaches.
