Primary SEN Teacher – 12 month maternity cover

About the role

This is a 12‑month maternity cover position for an experienced Primary SEN Teacher in a specialist school for pupils with autism, severe or profound learning difficulties and related needs. The role starts in September and can be placed in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, depending on staffing needs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver a multi‑sensory curriculum tailored to low P‑level learners.
• Assess and monitor individual pupil progress, adapting interventions as required.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, support staff and parents to ensure a cohesive educational experience.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to the school’s safeguarding and pastoral frameworks.

Required profile

• Recent experience teaching SEN in a UK school, preferably with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and specific learning difficulties (SLD).
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) – or equivalent.
• Passion for creative, inclusive teaching methods and strong commitment to pupil wellbeing.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ASD and SLD educational strategies.
• Ability to implement multi‑sensory teaching approaches.
