Primary SEND & SEMH Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Primary SEND & SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Manchester. The role involves supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs and social‑emotional challenges, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive academically and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH and other additional needs.
• Deliver targeted intervention sessions to aid learning and emotional development.
• Assist pupils in accessing classroom activities and the wider curriculum.
• Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and inclusion strategies.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs and parents to maintain consistent support.

Required profile

• Recent experience (within the last 2 years) working in a UK primary school.
• Previous experience supporting SEND and/or SEMH pupils.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and inclusion policies.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Patient, proactive and adaptable approach.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEND and SEMH frameworks.
• Ability to implement behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
• Experience delivering intervention and support sessions.
