Primary Teacher (QTS) – Autism Specialist

About the role
First Bridge School is seeking a qualified primary teacher (QTS) to lead a small class of autistic pupils aged 2‑11. You will work in a purpose‑built environment alongside speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour specialists, delivering personalised, structured learning for children with complex developmental needs.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver individualised SEND lessons aligned with each pupil’s EHCP targets.
- Use autism‑specific strategies such as structured routines, visual supports, TEACCH, PECS and ABA‑informed approaches.
- Collaborate daily with SALT, OT and behaviour teams to ensure consistent therapeutic support.
- Monitor progress through continuous assessment and observation, adjusting instruction as needed.
- Maintain a safe, predictable classroom environment and implement positive behaviour support.
- Communicate regularly with parents, carers and external professionals.
- Uphold safeguarding and SEND best practice at all times.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with completed ECT induction.
- Experience teaching in SEN/SEND or autism settings.
- Strong understanding of EHCPs, differentiation and personalised learning.
- Ability to support pupils with communication, sensory and behaviour challenges.
- Effective classroom management using structured, consistent approaches.
- Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Required skills
- Knowledge of autism teaching strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, ABA).
- Familiarity with speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and behaviour support frameworks.
What we offer
- Competitive salary £44,238‑£52,300 per year, dependent on experience.
- Full‑time permanent contract (Monday‑Friday).
