Principal Applied Data Scientist (NLP & LLMs)

About the role

LSEG is hiring a Principal Applied Data Scientist (individual contributor) in London. You will lead the end-to-end development of production-ready AI solutions within the LSEG Workspace team, which delivers personalised insights, news and analytics to financial professionals. The role suits a hands-on data scientist with deep NLP and LLM expertise, strong Python skills and a track record of deploying models to production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test and deploy robust, scalable AI models used by real users
• Apply NLP and LLM techniques to solve real-world problems, optimising performance and reliability
• Improve model quality through tuning, evaluation and feedback from production usage
• Evaluate third-party AI solutions on performance, scalability and integration
• Write and maintain production-grade Python code following software engineering best practices
• Collaborate with engineering and business partners on requirements, roadmaps and delivery

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Proven track record of shipping and supporting models in production
• Ability to own delivery timelines and set production standards
• Excellent communication of technical decisions to technical and non-technical audiences

Required skills

• NLP and LLMs applied to real problems
• Strong Python, including object-oriented design and PyTorch, TensorFlow and Scikit-Learn
• Understanding of probability and statistical modelling
• Cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS) and modern deployment practices
• Desirable: DevOps practices (CI/CD, version control, automated testing, monitoring) and TypeScript
