Principal Architect

About the role

SYSTRA is seeking a Principal Architect to join its Architecture Team in the UK. The role will be based in one of our London, Birmingham or Reading offices and will lead design projects across the built environment, particularly in the rail, airport, energy and master‑planning sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strong, proactive project leadership and be accountable for all design deliverables.
• Produce drawings, reports, schedules and calculations throughout the RIBA work stages.
• Coordinate and manage in‑house architectural designers, technicians and external partners.
• Liaise with multi‑disciplinary colleagues to develop collaborative built‑environment solutions.
• Manage design input from partners, sub‑contractors and consultants.
• Take projects from feasibility through detailed design to site support and completion.
• Assist in resource planning to meet engineering, safety, timescale and budget targets.
• Provide technical assistance to site‑based personnel and review tender opportunities.

Required profile

• Chartered Architect (ARB & RIBA registered) with extensive experience in the creative design process.
• Proven track record delivering projects across the rail, airport, energy or master‑planning sectors.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage client and business requirements.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
