Principal / Associate Fire Safety Engineer

About the role

Join Tetra Tech’s expanding Fire Safety team as a Principal / Associate Fire Safety Engineer. You will deliver fire engineering services on public and private sector projects across the UK and internationally, applying fire engineering principles to building design and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex fire engineering analyses and produce defendable design solutions.
• Conduct design reviews, drawing and specification checks for compliance with Approved Document B, BS 9999 and engineered solutions.
• Use fire and evacuation modelling or structural fire engineering methods to inform design and risk assessments.
• Attend site and design‑team meetings, representing fire engineering input.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight.
• Support business development activities and contribute to winning new projects.

Required profile

• Recognised fire engineering qualification with extensive consultancy experience.
• Proven track record delivering fire safety solutions in commercial, residential, education, healthcare or defence sectors.
• Full, clean UK driving licence and willingness to undergo security clearance.

Required skills

• Fire dynamics analysis.
• Fire modelling (e.g., Pathfinder, FDS) and evacuation modelling.
• Structural fire engineering methods.
• Knowledge of Approved Document B and BS 9999.
• Risk assessment and compliance checking.
• Technical delivery and drawing review.
