Principal Consultant – Future of Mobility

About the role

WSP is seeking a Principal Consultant to join its Future of Mobility team. You will work with public and private sector clients across the UK, helping shape strategy, policy and investment decisions for emerging transport modes and technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advisory services on connected and automated mobility, micromobility, demand‑responsive transport, and ticketing/payment systems.
• Analyse evidence, frame complex problems and develop credible recommendations that balance customer, technology and commercial considerations.
• Lead and contribute to multiple client projects simultaneously, delivering strategic reports, policy briefs and investment cases.
• Collaborate with senior team members and external experts to ensure high‑quality, evidence‑based outputs.
• Support business development activities, including proposal writing and client relationship building.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in transport planning, mobility strategy or related consultancy work.
• Strong understanding of emerging transport modes, services and business models.
• Proven ability to analyse data, synthesize findings and communicate complex ideas clearly.
• Experience working with both public and private sector clients.

Required skills

• Knowledge of connected and automated mobility concepts.
• Familiarity with micromobility and demand‑responsive transport solutions.
• Understanding of ticketing, payment and information system frameworks.
