Principal Consultant – MOD Defence & Government

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Principal Consultant to lead the development of Category A five‑case business models for the UK Ministry of Defence and related government bodies. This hybrid position will place you at the centre of defence transformation, working closely with senior MOD stakeholders to deliver evidence‑based investment cases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and author strategic, economic, commercial, financial and management cases for complex defence programmes.
• Collaborate with MOD finance, commercial and assurance teams to ensure alignment with Treasury Green Book and JSP 655 guidance.
• Lead stakeholder engagement, presenting findings to senior MOD officials and securing approvals.
• Define business processes, elicit requirements and design target operating models for digital, data and capability initiatives.
• Oversee data analysis, benefits realisation and performance measurement to underpin investment decisions.

Required profile

• Extensive experience creating MOD business cases (SOC, OBC, FBC) for large‑scale programmes.
• Proven ability to build trusted advisory relationships with senior government clients.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with influence at senior levels.
• Positive, flexible attitude and a track record of working in high‑performing, multidisciplinary teams.
