Principal Designer (CDM) – Engineering Consultancy

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer to lead CDM compliance on a range of Environment Agency projects across the UK. Based in Bristol, you will join a collaborative engineering consultancy that prioritises health, safety and innovative design.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake Principal Designer duties in line with CDM Regulations 2015.
• Coordinate design risk management across multidisciplinary teams.
• Review and challenge design information to eliminate or reduce foreseeable risks.
• Facilitate design risk workshops and provide CDM advice to project teams.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders to ensure compliance and best practice.
• Prepare and review pre‑construction information and health and safety documentation.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Principal Designer in construction or infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and current health and safety legislation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Relevant health and safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Construction) – professional body membership desirable.
