About the role

We are seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead our growing environmental division. This senior position offers autonomy to shape the future of our ecology service while mentoring a talented team and driving business expansion.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of ecologists, supporting their technical and professional growth.
  • Manage delivery of ecological projects from instruction through to completion, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Oversee project programming, resource allocation, financial performance and profitability.
  • Produce and quality‑assure high‑quality technical advice across a broad range of ecological disciplines.
  • Prepare and review Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments, Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans, and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Provide expert advice on protected species legislation, habitats and planning policy.
  • Develop strong client relationships, prepare competitive fee proposals and contribute to new business acquisition.

Required profile

  • Qualified ecologist with extensive experience in delivering complex ecological surveys and assessments.
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting and profitability management.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting client relationships.
