Principal Educational Psychologist

About the role

This senior position leads a well‑established Educational Psychology Service within a forward‑thinking local authority on the South Coast. You will shape service development, support team growth and influence SEND strategy while delivering high‑quality statutory and traded services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Educational Psychology Service.
• Supervise, coach and develop Educational Psychologists and Senior Educational Psychologists.
• Ensure delivery of high‑quality consultation, assessment, intervention, training and psychological advice.
• Quality‑assure practice to meet statutory requirements and professional standards.
• Undertake complex casework, including assessment and intervention.
• Develop and deliver training for schools to strengthen inclusive practice.
• Contribute to SEND strategy, service planning and policy development.
• Promote partnership working with education, health, social care and other agencies.
• Support innovation and continuous improvement across the service.

Required profile

• HCPC‑registered Educational Psychologist.
• Significant experience delivering Educational Psychology services in a local authority or equivalent setting.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or leading Educational Psychologists, or a Senior Educational Psychologist ready for a first Principal role.
• Strong knowledge of current psychological approaches and inclusive practice.
