Principal EIA Consultant

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is hiring on behalf of a leading environmental consultancy for a Principal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Consultant based in Leeds. You will work on high‑profile projects across transport, renewable energy and property, delivering environmentally‑focused solutions in a hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate environmental inputs for major EIA projects.
• Manage assessments from strategy development through detailed design and condition discharge.
• Prepare screening, scoping, consultation materials and high‑quality Environmental Statements.
• Collaborate with internal specialists and external stakeholders to embed environmental solutions.
• Engage clients, sub‑consultants and stakeholder groups to ensure clear communication and successful delivery.
• Prepare fee proposals, manage project budgets and track financial performance.
• Provide line‑management or mentorship to junior team members.
• Contribute to business development and bid preparation.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification in EIA or a related environmental discipline.
• Comprehensive knowledge of EIA processes and UK legislation.
• Broad technical understanding of key environmental disciplines and development projects.
• Proven experience leading complex, multi‑disciplinary EIAs and producing high‑quality documentation.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent project management, budget tracking and delivery coordination.
• Experience engaging with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Demonstrated line‑management or mentoring experience.
• Track record of contributing to business development and bid preparation.
