Principal Engineer

About the role

Kier is seeking a Principal Engineer to join its Design team in Wymondham. You will work within a 100‑strong Construction Engineering capability, delivering safe, buildable solutions for complex civil, structural and geotechnical projects.

Key responsibilities

• Agree and interpret technical client requirements, challenge where necessary and lead fee proposal development.
• Organise and lead the day‑to‑day workload of engineers and technical staff, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, SHE Management System and Quality Management System.
• Oversee production of design deliverables – calculations, drawings, reports and risk assessments – and identify value‑engineering opportunities.
• Manage client, design and site relationships, represent Kier at project meetings and ensure contractual obligations are met.
• Control financial and commercial aspects of projects with support from Engineering and Commercial Managers.
• Provide leadership to direct and indirect reports, conduct inductions, performance reviews and promote best practice.
• Develop digital competency, mentor staff and contribute to engineering methods, software tools and business development.

Required profile

• Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CEng, MICE) with substantial industry experience.
• Proven experience in a similar senior engineering role, particularly designing temporary works.
• Strong understanding of construction engineering, health & safety, sustainability and professional standards.
