Principal Engineer – Permanent

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to join a government association in Hampshire. This permanent, hybrid‑working position offers the chance to become the senior technical authority for Business Systems and to shape the organisation's technology direction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the most complex and business‑critical engineering challenges.
• Define and influence technology strategy across the whole organisation.
• Establish engineering standards, architecture and best practices at scale.
• Provide technical assurance for platforms, integrations and systems.
• Mentor and inspire engineers across multiple teams to raise capability.

Required profile

• Deep, broad technical expertise in software engineering, system design, integrations, Azure and enterprise platforms such as CRM and finance systems.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale engineering or architectural transformation.
• Experience with product‑aligned or service‑led operating models.
• Strong understanding of modern engineering practices (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD).
• Ability to shape technical strategy and influence senior stakeholders.
