Principal Flood Risk & Hydraulic Modeller

About the role

This senior position leads complex flood risk and hydraulic modelling projects for a growing environmental consultancy in Cambridge. You will act as the technical authority, shaping client solutions and mentoring the regional water team while enjoying a balanced office‑home working pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Lead hydrological and hydraulic modelling studies for residential, commercial and infrastructure schemes.
• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and Environmental Statement chapters.
• Liaise with regulators, clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance and project success.
• Mentor junior consultants, review technical outputs and support professional development.
• Assist with fee proposals, budgeting and project planning.

Required profile

• Minimum seven years of experience in flood risk and hydraulic modelling.
• Strong technical capability across a range of modelling platforms.
• Confident report writer and client communicator.
• Chartered or working towards CIWEM (or equivalent) status.
