Principal Geotechnical Engineer – Edinburgh

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Edinburgh. You will lead technically challenging projects across infrastructure, transportation, energy, commercial and residential sectors, mentoring junior staff and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical design on complex projects.
• Manage and deliver geotechnical investigations from tender stage through to completion.
• Produce and review interpretative reports and design calculations.
• Provide expertise on foundations, retaining structures, slope stability, earthworks and ground improvement schemes.
• Oversee project budgets, programmes and client relationships.
• Mentor and develop graduate and junior engineers.
• Support business development, bids and proposals.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering (MSc desirable).
• Significant consultancy experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Strong technical background in geotechnical design and interpretation.
• Proven project management and client liaison experience.
• Chartered status (ICE or Geological Society) or working towards chartership.
